From Monday, August 24 to Saturday, August 29, 2026, Mie University held the "Iga-Ueno Internship & Homestay Program" for international students.
Four international students participated in the program, each undertaking a five-day internship at a different company. The students were hosted by four companies in the Iga-Ueno area-- Iga-Ueno Cable Television Co., Ltd., Yasunaga Corporation, Chugai Pharmaceutical Production Co., Ltd., and Asahi Diamond Industrial Co., Ltd.--where they learned about various types of work and the companies' initiatives through hands-on experience in actual workplaces.

During the internship, the students stayed with host families and deepened their understanding of Japanese culture and local communities through interactions with their host families and everyday life. In addition to learning in the workplace, experiencing life in a Japanese home gave the students an opportunity to gain a closer understanding of daily life and local culture in Japan.
The participating students shared their experiences, saying, "Spending five days in an actual workplace gave me a concrete sense of how work is carried out in Japanese companies and what the workplace atmosphere is like." Another student commented, "Learning about a new field gave me an opportunity to think about my interests and future career path."
