The Center for International Exchange offers lectures on Japanese language education and international career development courses for international students.

How to take the classes at CIER....

  1. Take "Japanese Language Placement Test" for Japanese Language Education Course.
    If you passed the course in the last semester, you are allowed to take the classes in the next level.
  2. After the results are announced, register for courses according to your Japanese level using the registration form.
  3. Attend the first class.
  4. If you wish to change your course registration, please re-register using the registration form during the course registration correction period.


Japanese Language Education Course


This course is open to all international students enrolled at Mie University according to their needs and Japanese language proficiency.
There are six levels of Japanese language proficiency: Intensive Basic I, Intensive Basic II, Intensive Basic III, Intermediate I, Intermediate II, and Advanced.
All courses are one semester (15 weeks) long and begin in April and October.

Students who wish to enroll in this course must take the Japanese Language Placement Test, which is given in March or September, and the result of the test will determine the level of Japanese to be studied.

International Career Development Course


The Center for International Exchange and the Center for General Education offer lectures that are useful for future employment and skill development.
These can be credited to the university-wide common education courses if you are a regular student.

The following lectures will enhance communication skills (including English language skills), cross-cultural competence, and other skills necessary for students to be active with a global perspective. International collaborative learning through English-based lectures in which Japanese and international students study and discuss in the same class. These lectures are very beneficial for Japanese and international students who are interested in cross-cultural collaboration with English and study abroad (short and long term).
